With a virtual DC Design Week, we’re going to miss seeing all of you IRL. So we’ve planned the next best thing: a virtual community flipbook featuring all of you!

All week-long, we invite all of you to use a template and create a portrait of yourself. Once you have made your creation and submitted it via this Google Form, we’ll reveal an animation of our community portraits as our favorite file format ever: a GIF.

DistrictHunt2020

Game Genius hosts their annual District Hunt to showcase the intersection of play and philanthropy. In 2019 (inaugural year), players celebrated the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage as they completed an interactive story puzzle through relevant sites in the city. This year, our focus turns to mental health.

For all of 2020, we have been building a mural of clues on our Instagram @GameGeniusLLC (also located on our website here). After registering on EventBrite, the hunt will start on our website, with players needing to enter the correct passcode. Upon entry, players will have the option of choosing a VA or DC game track. Each track will consist of 3 hidden challenges that align with the 3 segments of Mental Health: Feeling, Thinking, and Acting. Clues online will help players identify and navigate to the physical location of these challenges. When players arrive at a location, they will face a number of fun games/puzzles to earn a key. These keys contain cryptic messages that players must combine to solve the final mystery.

Watch DC-based rock band Broke Royals in their DCDW, special edition episode of their weekly livestream series “Alone, Together,” where they write, record, debut, and dissect a brand new song every week! This week’s song will be written using this year’s DCDW theme “Your Creative Voices” in mind. They are joined by fellow DC musician David Combs of Bad Moves.

With this session, Broke Royals wants to encourage collaboration and community in this time of social distancing. Band members will share tips for how to stay creative under a strict deadline.
